U.S. Department Of State Updates Its Travel Advisory For South Africa

A revised Level 2 travel advisory for South Africa was released by the U.S. State Department, which advises travelers to proceed with extra caution because of the country’s high crime and civil unrest.

Armed robberies, rapes, carjackings, muggings, and “smash-and-grab” attacks on cars are examples of violent crime that occurs frequently. Major cities’ central business districts are more likely to experience violent crime after dark, according to authorities.

Additionally, the department issued a warning about using GPS in South Africa. According to the update, there have been instances where visitors to Cape Town using GPS navigation apps have been directed through residential areas with high rates of violent crime.
