Karzai to visit Obama next month

12:50PM EST December 13. 2012 – President Obama is starting to fill out his January schedule, and it includes Hamid Karzai.

The Afghanistan president has agreed to meet with Obama at the White House during the week of Jan. 7, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced Thursday in Kabul[1].

The meeting is scheduled as Obama decides how many U.S. will remain in Afghanistan after combat operations end after 2014.

The Associated Press has reported[2] that officials are looking a number between 6,000 and 10,000; there are currently about 66,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
