Terror strikes have hit U.S. embassies across Mideast recently

There have been several attacks in the Muslim world recently against US embassies, some of which have been the work of al-Qaeda terrorists.

BENGHAZI, Libya – U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed Sept. 11 when local militia members affiliated with al-Qaeda attacked the U.S. consulate with gunfire, rocket and mortars. The consulate was also bombed in June, with no injuries.

CAIRO, Egypt – Hundreds of Egyptians protesting an anti-Islam video published on YouTube stormed the U.S. embassy compound Sept. 11, scaling its perimeter wall and pulling down the U.S. flag and tearing and burning it.

SAANA, Yemen – Hundreds of demonstrators scaled the walls of the American embassy and clashed with Yemeni security forces. At least four protesters were killed and 30 people were injured. On Oct. 11, a Yemeni security investigator for the U.S. embassy was shot to death on his way to work. Officials said the slaying had the hallmarks of an al-Qaeda operation.

TUNIS, Tunisia – At least two people died and 29 were injured as protesters battled police at the U.S. embassy in Tunis, Sept. 14. Demonstrators stormed the embassy compound, threw computers out of windows and set trees on fire while protesting an anti-Islam YouTube video.

KARACHI, Pakistan – Protests resulted in one death and dozens of injuries when Pakistani security forces clashed with demonstrators trying to storm the U.S. embassy compound Sept. 16.
