A fast-moving but potentially high-impact winter storm system is set to sweep across large portions of Iowa and Wisconsin tonight, prompting multiple Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS).
Forecasters warn that heavy snowfall rates, gusty winds, and rapidly deteriorating road conditions could significantly disrupt the Thursday evening commute and overnight travel.
According to statements issued early Thursday morning by several NWS offices, including La Crosse, Milwaukee/Sullivan, Des Moines, Quad Cities, Sioux Falls, and Omaha/Valley, a narrow yet intense band of snow is expected to develop late Thursday afternoon and evening, continuing into early Friday morning.
