A widespread winter weather system continues to impact Virginia and large portions of the central and southern Appalachian region, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue multiple Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings across the Commonwealth and neighboring states.
The alerts, issued Saturday morning, remain in effect through Sunday, February 1, with varying end times depending on location.
According to the NWS offices in Blacksburg and Wakefield, light to moderate snowfall combined with strong wind gusts is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, even in areas forecast to receive relatively low snow totals.
