Urgent Extreme Cold Warning Issued for Oklahoma and Arkansas Following Snowstorm

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Extreme Cold Warning across Oklahoma and Arkansas, cautioning residents to brace for dangerously low wind chills that could result in frostbite or hypothermia in a matter of minutes.

The warning, in effect until noon CST Tuesday, January 27, 2026, follows a powerful winter storm that swept through the region over the weekend, leaving behind a brutal Arctic air mass.

According to meteorologists, the combination of clear skies, fresh snow cover, and Arctic high pressure has created ideal conditions for one of the coldest outbreaks in recent years across parts of the Southern Plains.
