The U.S. Department of State has raised its travel advisory level for Jamaica to Level 3: Reconsider Travel, following widespread damage caused by Hurricane Melissa. The update, issued on October 28, 2025, adds “Natural Disaster” to the list of risk indicators alongside ongoing concerns about crime and health.
According to the Department of State, non-emergency personnel and family members of U.S. government employees have been authorized to leave Jamaica as recovery efforts continue. The U.S. Embassy in Kingston has temporarily reduced staffing and may limit routine services for U.S. citizens. Travelers are advised to reconsider or reschedule trips to the island until conditions stabilize.
