The U.S. Embassy in Thailand has issued a heightened Security Alert as armed clashes along the Thailand–Cambodia border intensified on Monday, marking one of the most serious escalations in the region in recent years.
The advisory urges U.S. citizens to avoid all travel within 50 kilometers of the border, citing ongoing artillery exchanges, small-arms fire, and rapidly deteriorating security conditions.

According to the U.S. Mission Thailand, fighting surged on December 8 with multiple reports of cross-border fire between Thai and Cambodian forces. Embassy officials stressed the limited capacity to assist U.S. nationals in the affected provinces due to active hostilities.
