The U.S. Embassy in Lima has issued a security alert following the Peruvian government’s declaration of a 30-day State of Emergency across the provinces of Metropolitan Lima and Callao. The measure, effective immediately, seeks to address what authorities have described as “growing insecurity” in the capital region.
Under the emergency decree, the Peruvian Armed Forces are authorized to support the National Police (PNP) in maintaining public order. The PNP has been granted expanded powers, including the ability to restrict movement and public assembly during this period.
