A tornado warning was issued early Wednesday morning for parts of southeastern Illinois as a powerful storm system moved rapidly through the region.
Meteorologists warned that a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected on radar, prompting urgent safety alerts for residents in multiple counties.
The warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Lincoln, Illinois, shortly before 6 a.m., after meteorologists observed rotation within a fast-moving storm cell.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning applied to central Jasper County, southeastern Cumberland County, and southeastern Effingham County.
