A tornado watch has been extended across several counties in Georgia, including areas in close proximity to Atlanta, as a powerful storm system continues to push through the southeastern United States on Saturday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City issued a bulletin at 10:47 a.m. EST, warning residents of possible tornado development, damaging winds, and frequent lightning through early afternoon.
The tornado watch—officially Tornado Watch 3—will remain in effect until 2 p.m. EST, and includes Chattahoochee, Coweta, Harris, Meriwether, Muscogee, and Troup counties in west-central Georgia. This alert covers cities such as Columbus, Fort Benning, Manchester, Newnan, Pine Mountain, and West Point.
