A powerful winter system is set to sweep across northern Michigan, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue Winter Storm Warnings for 16 counties as forecasters warn of heavy snow, ice accumulations, and dangerous wind gusts through Wednesday evening.
The warnings cover large portions of the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan, including Alger, Delta, Luce, Schoolcraft, Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Montmorency, Alpena, and Mackinac counties. The most severe impacts are expected between late Tuesday night and Wednesday evening.
