A potentially high-impact icing event is taking shape for the day after Christmas, with the National Weather Service warning that freezing rain could create dangerous travel conditions and disrupt power across parts of the region on Friday, December 26, into early Saturday, December 27.
In its latest weather briefing, the NWS Pittsburgh office emphasized how quickly conditions can deteriorate once temperatures hover near freezing: “Remember, even a glaze of ice can make travel dangerous!”
The highest-confidence signal is for freezing rain and ice accretion during the daytime Friday, continuing into Friday night in some areas.
