A powerful winter storm is set to blanket large portions of Maine with heavy snowfall and strong winds, prompting the National Weather Service to issue Winter Storm Warnings for nine counties across the state as conditions are expected to deteriorate from Sunday night into Tuesday morning.
According to the NWS offices in Caribou and Gray, snow accumulations ranging from 5 to 14 inches are forecast across affected areas, with the highest totals expected in parts of southwest Maine. Coastal and interior Downeast regions could see between 7 and 11 inches, while portions of coastal York and Cumberland counties may receive up to 14 inches.
