Flood Watch Issued for All Hawaiian Islands as Heavy Rainfall Expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for all Hawaiian Islands, warning of potential flash flooding and hazardous conditions from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon.

A developing Kona low, an atypical weather system known for bringing heavy rainfall and unstable weather, is forecast to form north of Kauai on Saturday night, with impacts expected to spread statewide.

“Residents across the islands should prepare for potentially dangerous flooding conditions,” said Robert Ballard, meteorologist with the NWS Honolulu office. “This system could deliver intense rainfall, particularly to southeast-facing slopes, increasing the risk of landslides and flash floods.”
