Arizona Just Broke Its All-Time March Heat Record — And NOAA Made It Official This Week

Arizona residents who felt like they were living through a summer heatwave in March weren’t imagining things. Federal weather officials just confirmed it: last month was the hottest March ever recorded in Arizona’s history — and it helped shatter the hottest month on record for the entire continental United States.

NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information released the data this week, and the numbers are jaw-dropping. March’s average temperature across the continental US was 50.85°F — 9.35°F above the 20th century normal, easily passing the old record of 8.9°F set in March 2012 as the most abnormally hot month on record, regardless of the month of the year.
