The National Weather Service and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) have issued a Code Orange air quality alert for the Pittsburgh area, effective Monday, February 2, 2026.
The alert specifically includes the Liberty-Clairton region of Allegheny County, encompassing the communities of Clairton, Glassport, Lincoln, Liberty, and Port Vue.
A Code Orange designation indicates that air pollution levels are expected to rise to unhealthy levels for sensitive populations. These groups include young children, older adults, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or heart disease.
