Four counties in western Massachusetts are under an Extreme Cold Watch as an arctic air mass is expected to bring dangerously low wind chills to the region this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The watch, issued by the National Weather Service Boston/Norton, remains in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning for Western Franklin, Western Hampshire, and Western Hampden counties, including communities such as Blandford, Charlemont, and Chesterfield. These areas lie along the eastern slopes of the Berkshires, where exposure to strong winds is expected to intensify the cold.
