U.S. Open Day 10: Key matches, TV schedule

NEW YORK — Two spots remain to be determined in the women’s semifinals, and the first two men’s semifinalists will be known by the end of Wednesday, Day 10 at the U.S. Open.

Victoria Azarenka and Rafael Nadal, the tournament’s No. 2 seeds, highlight the night schedule at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Azarenka is first up, facing Daniela Hantuchova for a spot in the semifinals (7 p.m.) Nadal will face Tommy Robredo — who knocked off Roger Federer in the fourth round. Nadal is 19-0 on hardcourts this year, and 6-0 vs. Robredo in his career.

Other key matches

•In a clash of veteran Italians, Flavia Pennetta, 31, faces Roberta Vinci, 30, first up at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Each is trying to reach a major semifinal for the first time.

•David Ferrer vs. Richard Gasquet, second up at Ashe Stadium. The steady, consistent Ferrer, 31, is in his eighth consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal, and looking for his third U.S. Open semifinals appearance. Gasquet, 27, is in the quarterfinals in New York for the first time.

•Serena and Venus Williams face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Lucie Safarova in the third round of women’s doubles. They are last up on Louis Armstrong.
