10:19AM EST November 26. 2012 – Andy Roddick has retired from tennis, but he is not gone from the game just yet.

This week in Key Biscayne, Fla., the Miami Tennis Cup will pay tribute to Roddick’s career — and as a matter of fact deliver tennis from some of today’s top players.

Roddick will be joined by former No. 1 (an also recently retired) Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain, U.S. Open champ and Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray of Britain, Nicolas Almagro of Spain, Alejandro Falla of Colombia and John Isner, the top-ranked American.

The tournament will feature a double elimination round robin.

All matches will take place on the stadium court at Crandon Park — the host each March of the Sony Ericsson Open — and will be broadcast live by ESPN3. More than 7,000 spectators are expected to attend each day.

“We are pleased to announce the first annual Miami Tennis Cup, a premium and world class competition featuring today’s most exciting top-ranked players,” said Julian Wortelboer, President and CEO of Group NOS. “We are honored to have not only some of the most iconic tennis professionals competing, but some of the most legendary individuals from the world of sport — including an Olympic Gold medal winner, a U.S. Open champion and a French Open champion. We aim to establish the Miami Tennis Cup as a must-see event each year on the world tennis calendar.”

The top seed, Murray, and No. 2 seed, Roddick, will receive automatic byes into the semifinals. The remaining four players will be drawn against each other for a place in the semifinals, with the initial matches starting on stadium court at 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 30). The semifinals will be Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m.
