The New England Patriots put linebacker Jerod Mayo on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

The team did not announce the injury, which is believed to be a torn pectoral muscle.

It’s the latest blow to a Patriots defense that already was without nose tackle Vince Wilfork and had cornerback Aqib Talib limp off the field in Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints.

GRONK: Brady says there’s no resentment[1]

Mayo, 27, has started 79 games since joining the Patriots as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2008 draft.

The Patriots still are hurting on offense, too, with tight end Rob Gronkowski awaiting clearance on his surgically repaired forearm and receiver Danny Amendola sidelined after a hard hit Sunday.

Yet they’re 5-1 entering Sunday’s AFC East clash with the New York Jets.
