Lionel Messi owned MLS this year. Is he still one of the world’s best or is the league catching up?

It’s been quite the month for Lionel Messi. Literally.

The Inter Miami star picked up his fifth MLS Player of the Month honor this month after being a contributor toward 10 Miami goals, scoring five on his own, in just three games.

One of which included a hat trick against Nashville SC, one of the better clubs in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference. That hat trick landed him with 29 goals on the season, good enough for MLS’ Golden Boot award. He became just the third player since the turn of the century to score at least 29 goals in a regular season, with average of 1.03 goals per game.
