The initial College Football Playoff rankings have arrived.
And the selection committee has set the stage for a massive weekend ahead.
The committee’s initial set of rankings have set the table for four games between teams ranked inside the Top 15. Miami, the No. 1 team in the first rankings released moments ago, heads to South Bend to take on Notre Dame, ranked at No. 11 by the committee.
In addition, No. 7 BYU heads to Salt Lake City to take on No. 3 Utah in a massive game for both the Big 12, and the College Football Playoff. Over in the SEC, No. 2 Georgia squares off with No. 10 Ole Miss, while No. 5 Alabama heads to Baton Rouge to square off with No. 14 LSU in a matchup of 6-2 teams.
As things stand, Ohio State at No. 12 would be the first team out of the College Football Playoff, following losses to Texas and USC. Quarterback Julian Sayin has been sidelined with a right elbow injury and could miss the rest of the season. Boise State, at No. 25, would be in the College Football Playoff as the lone team from the Group of 6.
Here are the full initial rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee, as well as a look at the hypothetical bracket.
