5:18PM EST November 26. 2012 – An Alabama jeweler will be paying out a lot of money due to Auburn’s poor offensive performance in the Iron Bowl.

Jeff Dennis offered customers of his Gardendale, Ala., store full refunds if either Alabama or Auburn were shut out Saturday.

In a self-fulfilling prophecy, the No. 2 Crimson Tide managed to hold the Tigers off the scoreboard in a 49-0 victory that locked up a spot in the SEC title game.

As a result more 300 customers who bought items between Nov. 16-23 are eligible to receive full refunds and keep their purchases.

Dennis told CBS 42[1] he estimates that he will owe “tens of thousands of dollars” as a result.

Alabama cruised to a 42-0 lead at halftime. Then Dennis started to worry when Auburn failed to generate any offense in the second half.

“There were some tense moments in my house in the 3rd and 4th quarter and I was probably the only home that was a little concerned but it’s all good i’m insured so we’re having fun,” Dennis told CBS 42.

It’s good Dennis can stay lighthearted and won’t go bankrupt as a result of Auburn’s woeful performance. Plus, the publicity should probably help business.

But you can still include him with Disco Demolition and $.10 beer night in the list of good ideas in sports that went bad.
