‘You just go’: Red Cross volunteers from across the U.S. power Washington flood response

With as little as 24 hours’ notice, hundreds of American Red Cross volunteers have deployed to Washington. Some will stay through Christmas.

AUBURN, Wash. — As floodwaters inundated neighborhoods across western Washington over the past week, a nationwide network of American Red Cross volunteers mobilized quickly — many arriving within a day’s notice to help staff shelters, deliver meals and support families displaced by the disaster.
