Xian Zhang opens inaugural season as Seattle Symphony’s first female music director

Xian Zhang, who highlights the orchestra’s exceptional talent, opened the season Sept. 13.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Symphony Board of Directors selected Xian Zhang to lead the symphony as its first female music director.

Zhang has been involved with the Seattle Symphony since 2008, where she guest conducted during that year’s season. She kicked off her inaugural season Saturday with a mission of recognizing Seattle Symphony’s talent.
