TACOMA, Wash. — Wildlife officials euthanized five squirrels in Tacoma after a resident reported being bitten, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The incident was reported the morning of March 20. Officials say this is the only confirmed bite so far. Enforcement officers responded to the area and removed the animals after observing behavior suggesting they had become overly accustomed to people.
State wildlife officials noted that, in Washington, rabies is only known to be carried by bats.
