Wildfire near Lake Cushman blocking popular recreation areas was human-caused, officials say

A wildfire near Lake Cushman has closed popular recreation areas, including trails and a campground.

LAKE CUSHMAN, Wash. — A wildfire adjacent to Lake Cushman has led to officials closing several popular recreation areas in the Olympics. 

The fire was caused by humans, according to the National Park Service.

Crews responded to the Bear Gulch Fire Sunday evening. By Monday afternoon, it was estimated to be 10 to 20 acres in size, burning along Forest Service Road 24.

In response, the National Forest Service to closing the Mount Rose trail, Dry Creek trail, Copper Creek trail and Bear Gulch day use area.
