Washington won’t honor Cesar Chavez Day following sexual abuse allegations, governor says

Washington state will not observe Cesar Chavez Day, and Seattle Parks will consider renaming a park dedicated to the civil rights leader following new allegations.

SEATTLE — Washington state will not observe Cesar Chavez Day on March 31 following the New York Times’ new report detailing abuse allegations against the Latino civil rights leader.

Gov. Bob Ferguson’s office told KING 5 that “In light of the shocking allegations, the governor will not be issuing a proclamation honoring Cesar Chavez Day this year.” Instead, the state will celebrate Dolores Huerta Day on April 10, a tribute to the civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm
