Washington state’s fuel tax will rise on Tuesday. Here’s why

Higher costs at the gas pump could be arriving this summer for many Washingtonians.

WASHINGTON, USA — Washingtonians could see higher gas prices beginning Tuesday as part of the new state transportation budget.

The fuel tax will rise from $0.494 per gallon to $0.554, a six-cent hike that will take effect July 1.

This won’t be the final increase, either, as the Legislature has also set an annual 2% “inflation adjustment factor” for the fuel tax, which will take effect July 1, 2026.
