Washington among eligible states for new IRS Direct File tax program

IRS officials said low and middle-income earners who typically claim a standard deduction are the target users.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced Tuesday the launch of its Direct File program, a new tax filing process that will not cost any money for individuals.

Washington will be one of 13 states included in the Direct File program during the 2024 tax season.
