Police say Chapman saw his elderly neighbor on the ground and stepped in as the suspect kept attacking.
PORT ORCHARD, Wash — A 46-year-old Port Angeles man has been charged with assaulting his elderly neighbor before Washington state Sen. Mike Chapman stepped in to protect him.
Joseph Weston Beeman was booked into the Clallam County Jail on March 28 and is now charged with third-degree assault, obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $15,000.
According to court documents, Chapman called 911 at about 12:10 p.m. Saturday to report an assault in progress on South Laurel Street.
