Veterans plead not guilty after being indicted for scheme to steal JBLM military gear

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — Two Lacey men and former members of the military pleaded not guilty after being indicted for a two-year scheme to steal and sell military gear from Joint Base Lewis-McChord on Monday. 

Charles Ethan Fields, 27, and Levi Austin Frakes, 27, were indicted by a grand jury for conspiracy, four counts of theft of government property, assault, robbery and attempted theft of government property. 

A trial for this case is set for Feb. 24. 2026. Assault and theft of government property is punishable by up to 10
