Vehicle of interest impounded in fatal Tacoma collision involving WSP trooper

A dark-colored pickup truck struck the trooper Friday and continued southbound on SR 509 without stopping, police said.

TACOMA, Wash. — Investigators have located and impounded a vehicle of interest believed to be involved in the fatal collision that killed a Washington State Patrol trooper on state Route 509, Tacoma police said Tuesday.

The Tacoma Police Department said the development took place within the past 24 hours as the investigation into Friday night’s crash continues. Police are still asking for help from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dash-camera footage from the area.

Trooper Tara-Marysa Guting was struck around 7:23 p.m.
