UW scientists, students rally against proposed federal research funding cuts

SEATTLE — Scientists and students at the University of Washington gathered at Kane Hall on Monday to protest the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to federal research funding, warning the reductions could devastate scientific innovation.

The “Kill the Cuts” rally drew dozens of researchers concerned about the administration’s 2026 budget plan, which would slash more than half of the National Science Foundation’s funding and make significant cuts to the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Energy Office of Science.
