Two women killed by falling tree in the Olympics

Around noon on Jan. 15, three women were hiking the Lena Lake Trail near Lena Lake when a large, dead evergreen tree broke near the ground and fell.

HOODSPORT, Wash. — Two women hiking in the Olympics were killed after a tree fell on them, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. 

Around noon on Jan. 15, three women were hiking the Lena Lake Trail near Lena Lake when a large, dead evergreen tree broke near the ground and fell onto the trail. Kathryn Pickard of Bremerton, 76, and Christine Mutchler of Seabeck, 70, were hit.
