The word “twindemic” is one you’ve probably seen in the news lately. It’s a portmanteau of the words “twin” and “pandemic.”

While clever, the word carries serious implications.

Public health experts fear influenza will be the second virus in a pair of pandemics that ravage the U.S. this winter.
