Three climbers killed in fall in the North Cascades

A fourth climber survived the fall and was rushed to the Harborview Medical Center.

MAZAMA, Wash. — Three climbers were killed Sunday morning after a fall in the North Cascades, according to authorities. 

Okanogan County Search and Rescue volunteers were called at about 11:30 a.m. for a climbing accident off State Route 20, about 16 miles west of Mazama, Washington. The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office said four climbers fell in the area of North Early Winters Spire while descending a steep gully.

Authorities said two of the victims who died were from Renton, and the other was from Bellevue.
