The challenges of navigating Seattle as a disabled person

Thirty-five years after the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, inaccessibility is still an urgent problem.

SEATTLE — Tanisha Sepulveda has been living with her disability for 15 years. 

For her, everything changed after falling off a rope swing at Golden Gardens in 2010.

Before, she led an independent life, working 60 hours a week in Seattle restaurants and bakeries, spending as much time as she could with friends, and living in her downtown studio apartment. 

“I never really planned on diverting from any of that,” Sepulveda said. “Life kind of had its own plans.”
