Tacoma Police received an $800,000 federal grant to fund initiatives including a pilot program for a gunshot detection system, but it was never implemented.
TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Police Department has abandoned plans to implement a trial run of a gunshot detection system in a neighborhood that has faced challenges with crime.
This comes about a year and a half after the police department announced that the technology could be a tool used to increase public safety and help them respond more efficiently to violent crime.
The department will not deploy ShotSpotter, an acoustic surveillance system that uses sensors to detect and locate gunfire,
