A teen who pleaded guilty to killing a bagel shop co-owner was sentenced to 26 years.
NEW ORLEANS — The 16-year-old who pleaded guilty in the killing of Jacob Carter, the co-owner of Tacoma’s Howdy Bagel, was sentenced Monday to 26 years in prison.
Malik Cornelius, who was charged as an adult, pleaded guilty May 9 to manslaughter.
Carter was killed in the Marigny neighborhood on Jan. 5, 2024, while he was on vacation with his husband, Daniel Blagovich. The New Orleans Police Department said Carter was found dead after an overnight shooting near Bourbon and Kerlerec Streets.
