YAKIMA, Wash. — Washington officials have declared a statewide drought emergency for the fourth consecutive year, citing low snowpack and strained water supplies.
“We are gathered … to declare a drought emergency for the fourth year in a row, and this time it is statewide,” said Department of Ecology Director Casey Sixkiller in a press conference Wednesday addressing the drought issue.
Under state law, drought is declared when water supply drops below 75% of normal.
