Sparks from rim of flat tire believed to cause several fires along I-90

Interstate 90 was closed in both directions for over two hours between Easton and Ellensburg due to fire activity and low visibility.

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — A trailer traveling westbound along Interstate 90 that suffered a flat tire is believed to have sparked several fires along the freeway on Monday, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff.

Washington’s Department of Natural Resources is still investigating the cause.  

I-90 was closed for around two hours between Easton and Ellensburg due to the fires and low visibility in the area, and crews remained on scene Monday evening as they worked to contain the fire.
