Sound Transit board finalizes link light rail realignment, accelerating some Seattle projects

After 17 months of deliberation and work, the Sound Transit Board finalized plans on Thursday to realign the project schedules for ST3 — a voter approved ballot measure that would add 62 new miles of light rail with stations serving additional areas in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties — amid a major affordability gap.

The committee largely blamed “unrelenting pressures” in the area’s red-hot real estate market compounded with lower revenue amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The board then undertook a process of realignment to adjust project schedules.
