Sole survivor of deadly North Cascades climbing accident shares what led up to the fall

He said he used an ice tool to make his way down, then he reportedly drove nearly two hours after the fall to find a working phone to call for help.

MAZAMA, Wash. — The survivor of a deadly climbing fall in the North Cascades shared Wednesday what led up to the accident that killed three people on Mother’s Day.

The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office said four climbers fell in the area of North Early Winters Spire at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday while descending a steep gully. Three of the climbers were killed, according to authorities.
