OLYMPIA, Wash — Senate budget writers want to mostly rely on cuts and the state’s emergency savings account to make up for an estimated $1.8 billion deficit in the current two-year budget.
The proposal released Sunday includes reduction in spending in state services like child care, long-term facilities and a program to help students transition from pre-school to kindergarten.
Under the bill, $750 million would come from the state’s budget stabilization account, commonly referred to as the “rainy day fund.”
