OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington state Senate has advanced legislation that would regulate automatic license plate reader cameras, a surveillance technology widely used by law enforcement and local governments and sold under brand names including Flock.
The bill passed on the Senate floor Wednesday afternoon on a 40-9 margin. The legislation now moves to the House, where lawmakers have said they would consider bills from the Senate after Feb. 17.
