Seattle’s air quality expected to remain good through Thursday despite active fires

The Bear Gulch Fire and a weekend of airshows over Lake Washington led to smoky skies on Monday afternoon.

SEATTLE — Many across western Washington noticed hazy skies on Monday afternoon into the evening. The air quality forecast for the region is expected to remain at a healthy level through the week before returning to “moderate” conditions this weekend.

In some parts of east King County, the distinct smell of smoke was unmistakable Monday. The ongoing Bear Gulch Fire west of Seattle near the Olympic National Forest grew to 4,500 acres over the weekend and is primarily responsible for the smog-like atmosphere. A weekend of airshows
