Seattle wants to make changes to Gas Works Park towers to prevent future falls, deaths

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking to remove all catwalks, ladders, staircases and platforms from the Gas Works Park towers to deter climbing.

SEATTLE — Seattle is looking to make changes at Gas Works Park to deter climbing after the recent falling death of a Ballard High School student last July. The proposal will be discussed at a Landmarks Preservation Board meeting Wednesday evening.

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is seeking the approval of the Landmarks Preservation Board to remove all catwalks, ladders, and support systems from the gas processing towers, along with the removal of one pipe that extends beyond fencing placed around them.
