Seattle swimming beaches begin to close for summer; indoor pools reopening in September

Seattle Parks and Recreation announced that the lifeguarded swimming beaches at Madrona and Magnuson officially closed for the season on Aug. 22. 

Pritchard Beach will have its last day of lifeguards on duty on Aug. 29. The lifeguarded beaches at Matthews, Madison, Mount Baker, and West Green Lake will remain open from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until Labor Day.

Several swimming beaches were closed last year at the height of summer due to spikes in novel coronavirus cases, budget cuts and staffing shortages. Difficulty hiring trained staff persisted this year due to the pandemic, and the parks
